About
Landman-Goldman Foundation
Our History
The Landman-Goldman Foundation is a private, non-operating foundation whose funds originated entirely from Helen L Goldman and her estate. Mrs. Goldman was born in Toledo, the only daughter of Dr. Otto Landman, one of the area's first ophthalmologists. She married M. William Goldman, who owned a commercial laundry business, and spent her entire life in Toledo. Her husband had preceded her in death, and when Mrs. Goldman passed away in 1996, the Foundation was funded from her estate.
Our Past Giving
The initial objective of the Foundation was to assist charitable organizations with a proven record of accomplishment, as well as newer agencies that were well-organized, had a strong base of support, and could meet a community need that existing institutions had not fulfilled. Support was provided to a multitude of deserving organizations for a wide range of purposes, including building campaigns. Among the many recipients were: Toledo-Lucas County Public Library, Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo Area Humane Society, The Toledo Museum of Art, ABLE, Toledo School for the Arts, United Jewish Council, Girl Scouts of Northwest Ohio, The Toledo Zoo, Victory Center, Cherry Street Mission, Read for Literacy, and many others.
Our Focus Moving Forward
In recent years, the Foundation's giving focus has been substantially refined to address one of the community's greatest needs: education and enrichment programs for at-risk children and youth. To that end, the Foundation provides about $250,000 annually in support of Toledo Area programs that align with our mission statement.
Serving Disadvantaged Children & Youth in the Toledo Metropolitan Area
Our Mission
The Landman-Goldman Foundation serves disadvantaged children and youth in the Toledo metropolitan area by funding interventional education and enrichment programs that help lessen the adverse effects of poverty. Our primary focus is on supporting the efforts of public school systems and community-based non-profits who serve at-risk populations, especially at the early childhood education level. Consideration is also given to advancing the practice of professionals who are dedicated to serving these children.
